ZGORNJA KUNGOTA

Key information

A gem amidst the Kungota hills

On the level of contemporary culinary poetry – seasonal, local, with a feeling

In the heart of the wine-growing hills of Zgornja Kungota, where the road slowly winds between vineyards and orchards, stands Opok27 – a restaurant not just by the name but an expression of the environment, the land and the rhythm of nature. In a house with character, surrounded by a vegetable garden and a vineyard and a genuine tranquillity of the countryside, every dish begins with the season and ends with a story.

Opok27 is not restaurant that would serve crowds of people. It is a space for those who know how to pay attention to subtle flavours and feel the textures and smells the nature can express when given the opportunity to do so. A small but well thought-out selection of dishes is modified daily to match the chef’s inspiration and the garden’s goods. Every ingredient has its time, place and purpose – nothing is redundant or artificial.

There are no neon signs outside, no glamour inside. Only natural light, wood, stone, and appreciation for the space and the food. Here you do not look for glamour but for authenticity. And you will find it.

The flavours of a changing time

Five courses. Five moments. One story.

The culinary style of Opok27 restaurant is based on a seasonal selection with fresh vegetables from the garden, local meat, and freshwater fish in the centre of attention. The menu is completely revised every other month or so, sometimes even more frequently. This constant change is not just a fashionable trend but a response to nature and life around it.

There is a special emphasis on modern interpretation of traditional Styrian dishes, where every plate is a reflection of heritage – but without nostalgia. All dishes are designed to use fresh ingredients all the way to their last blade or fillet, which mindfully minimises waste and shows respect for every ingredient used.

Their 5-course tasting menu offers a first-rate experience – exploration of textures, flavours and stories, which will bring you closer to nature and the people who cultivate it.
