The softly rolling Goriška Brda Hills under the Mediterranean sun are the home of exceptional wines, inspiring views and superb food. Various traditions – Slovenian, Friulian and Hapsburg – have intertwined in this mild climate and together form the diverse Brda cuisine.

Frenchman Jean-Michel Morel married local Katja and came to Kabaj Homestead where they continue their story. They added a touch of novelty, imagination and the Mediterranean to the heritage of grandmother’s cookbook and rich Brda cuisine. Chefs Primož Bensa of Vipolže and David Bucik of Solkan, who prepare excellent Brda food from regionally grown ingredients, play the main role in the kitchen. Their classic dishes include the always popular homemade pasta and ravioli with various fillings which change in accordance with the seasons. Cold and hot fish dishes made using traditional recipes are served to lovers of seafood.

The Kabaj Homestead in Šlovrenc, not far from Dobrovo in the Goriška Brda Hills, has a long wine-producing tradition. Tastings of their own top-quality wines, which include red and white varieties, as well as sparkling wines, are organised in the wine cellar. The wines are produced in a classical manner, or they mature in oak barrels and amphoras.

Their wines also accompany the food they prepare for their guests. By featuring their own wines, they present their way of working and thinking. In addition to the restaurant and wine production, the homestead also lets out rooms with a view of the Brda vineyards. Their guests can enjoy homely hospitality, relax in the peaceful natural environment and indulge in excellent gastronomy. The Kabaj Homestead is also a starting point for long hikes and exploration of the natural and cultural sites of the Goriška Brda Hills.
