Gastronomy and Rock ‘n’ Roll
A fatal combination of flavours and music at a rock 'n' roll event
This rock 'n' roll of flavours is orchestrated by chefs and musicians from Maribor. Accompanied by excellent wines and flavours, you will discover music from the days when Maribor was the capital of Slovenian rock 'n' roll.
The event begins at the House of the Oldest Vine, where the oldest vine in the world grows.
The bubbles of the Oldest Vine sparkling wine, produced at the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences in nearby Hoče, will caress your throat while you listen to a rock song by the local rock group Lačni Franz called Praslovan, which every Slovenian can sing. This rosé sparkling wine with a subtle aroma and berry flavour is made from hand-picked grapes of the Blue Pinot variety using the traditional method of producing sparkling wines.

The symphony of the city centre
Through the streets of charming old Maribor, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee guides you. The next stop is the Polek café, where a cup of premium specialty coffee and a cozy atmosphere await, offering a perfect break during your exploration of the city.

Before your next glass of wine, you will visit the digital culinary table at the Maribor Regional Museum. You can explore the festive menus of different historical periods and gain insight into the changes that have taken place at and around the table. The feasts of the nobility, the festive lunches of the bourgeoisie and the sumptuous repasts of the peasants will come to life before your eyes.
The LeVino pleasure wine bar hides up to 70 varieties of excellent local wines, including boutique wines from winemaker Bartol, who listens to a new rock album with every vintage of his wine. You can sample three wines, including an orange wine. As wine goes with food, you will be served a selection of local cheeses from the Selinšek farm near Maribor: fresh cheese, aged cheese and aged fenugreek cheese, accompanied by excellent rye or white bread from the local Hiša Kruha bakery. The cheese snack is served on glass trays made from recycled bottles at the local art workshop Štok Wenzel.

The grand finale of the concert of flavours
It starts with a visit to GT22, a creative alternative art centre. This is the abbreviation for Glavni Trg 22 in Maribor, the address of a large town house with a floor area of a thousand square metres. A few years ago, an experiment started in this house that is almost unique in Slovenia. GT22 has become a laboratory for creativity, art, culture, urban sports and other interdisciplinary activities in the city. It can only be visited by appointment, which makes a visit to its large terrace with an exquisite view of the Drava River and the green Pohorje hills all the more special.

Finally, the climax of the rock experience begins. A unique and wild chef will take you through a spicy performance to 21st century cuisine. Lunch at the Mak Restaurant is always a unique culinary experience. There is no menu, only chef David Vračko, who is always full of surprises. In 2019, he received the title Chef of the Future by the Slovenian edition of the French guide Gault & Millau, while his restaurant has been recognized in the Michelin Guide in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
