Morning shows the day, breakfast shows the city!
Yummy Market Walk
Feel the heartbeat of Ljubljana market, taste fresh and seasonal delicacies, and start your day with an authentic Ljubljana breakfast as part of the guided experience "Yummy Market Walk".
Central Ljubljana Market is not just a place where you can find fresh produce and other delicious food, but also a place where you can meet people and socialise. The marketplace itself is surrounded by restaurants and street-food joints. The entire market is brought together by the arcades along the river that hosts the indoor market space, designed by the famous Slovenian architect, Jože Plečnik.

The colourful mosaic of Ljubljana market
A walk through the market reveals a colourful mosaic of different stalls. From the fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables, we pass by stalls with seedlings, traditional wooden fare, milk vending machines and weighing scales, and stop at the stall with a ciza, a traditional small wooden cart, where the guide tells you about the nearby gardens that used to provide food for the people of Ljubljana.
We continue through the fish market to the honey stall, where you can learn about Slovenian bees, the beekeeping tradition, and the importance of honey for Slovenia. The marketplace has several drinking water fountains, where you can discover why Ljubljana is known as one of the cities with the cleanest and safest drinking water.
You will learn about the Green Supply Chain project that connects local food producers with restaurants and hotels, and brings high-quality, local, delicious, and environmentally friendly ingredients to the plates of the people in Ljubljana.

The best smelling street in Ljubljana leads to an abundance of riches
The sweetest smelling street in the city, full of flower stalls, takes you to the stalls selling foraged mushrooms, blueberries, blackberries, wild strawberries, and many other wild foods. At the stalls with traditional dried flowers and decorations, you can make your own bouquet and get a recipe that is adjusted to the season and even to ingredients available in your country.
Tastings are also part of the experience. At the Pustotnik Cheese Dairy, you can taste different types of cheese (cow, goat, sheep), and at the bread stall, you can enjoy different types of bread while learning about the bread tradition in Slovenia.
The stall of the Janežič farm is full of salamis: bear and venison salami, špehovka made from bacon, and dragon salami made from pork and spice with chilli. The last one was inspired by the symbol of Ljubljana, which is a dragon.
You can also look forward to trying seasonal vegetables, fresh apples and dried apple slices, which are a traditional sweet snack around here. At the cabbage stall, you will learn about the importance of these typically Slovenian ingredients and try the fermented sauerkraut and turnip.

Ljubljana breakfast
After this pleasant walk, the final act of the tour is a Ljubljana breakfast served in a café by the river. The Ljubljana breakfast is a tasty result of the Green Supply Chain project. It includes produce and products provided by local farms, fruit from orchards, and vegetables from fields and greenhouses in Ljubljana and nearby. A rich selection of dishes made from seasonal and local ingredients is available. They can be modern or traditional, creatively improved, or just the way our grandmothers made them.
Different seasons bring different combinations. In the summer, for example, there is homemade granola with fresh fruit, egg omelette with goat’s cheese and tarragon, homemade bread, butter, honey, tea and coffee. A vegan option is also available: homemade granola with soy milk and maple syrup, sandwich with homemade kimchi, beetroot and button mushrooms, homemade fruit jam, tea and coffee.
The guided Yummy Market Walk will help you feel the heartbeat of the largest and most popular market in Ljubljana, while you learn about many traditions of our country.
