Break your Bela krajina flatbread with friends
A flatbread workshop that sparks new friendships
An experience that goes straight to the heart of Bela Krajina.
Instead of a typical culinary workshop, the House of Bela Krajina Delights invites you to a truly special experience – baking the traditional Bela Krajina flatbread (belokranjska pogača). This is not just bread-making, but a journey into tradition, where taste, history, and togetherness come alive in the company of locals.
Arrival into a world of flavours
As you arrive at the House of Delights, you’ll be welcomed with a glass of local sparkling wine and a homemade snack. Then follows an introduction to the workshop. Equipped with aprons and chef hats, you’ll gather around the workstations and knead the dough – the first step in crafting your flatbread.
Flavours of Bela Krajina while the dough rises
While the dough is rising, enjoy a tasting of local wines and delicacies such as cheese, salami, and walnuts. Take the opportunity to stroll through the charming old town of Metlika, where the stories of ancient houses awaken the imagination.
Shaping the flatbread and the tradition of breaking it
Back in the kitchen, you’ll shape the flatbread with seven precise cuts in both directions, brush it with egg, and sprinkle with salt and caraway seeds. As the aroma fills the room, it’s time for storytelling and connecting – sharing tales of life in Bela Krajina. The flatbread is never sliced – it is broken and shared, just as locals have done for centuries.

METLIKA
An experience that connects – with people, place, and flavour
Because it’s not just about baking bread – it’s about authentic culture, flavour, and connection. Join in, knead, taste, and create memories you’ll want to share. With your flatbread in hand, explore Bela Krajina – cycle, relax by the Kolpa River, or end the day with an evening wine tasting.
