About chef

He is not only a chef and restaurant manager, but also a barbecue enthusiast and expert. He has been committed to finding the perfect, seasonal flavours with an emphasis on local ingredients for a quarter of a century.

With a wealth of cooking experience, Dejan Mastnak arrived at the renovated Tri lučke Hotel and Restaurant in 2016 and has been creating poetry on the plate ever since. He has built up a catering menu and a team that continues to make his guests happy to this day.

He began his creative cooking career at the Tabor Castle in Laško, then went on to work at the Bled Castle Restaurant and cooked and managed the kitchens at the Ajdovec Hotel in Sevnica, the Impoljca Manor Restaurant, the Evropa Hotel in Celje, the Plaza Hotel in Ljubljana and the Pule Estate.

As a lover of daring challenges, he has prepared some high-profile banquets, smaller banquets, events and picnics. Several couples in Slovenia have said “yes” alongside his exquisite cuisine. He has won a number of culinary awards in Slovenia and enjoys attending various training courses. Among other things, he has completed a month-long training at Jumeirah Resort in Dubai and has been certified as an Original Weber grill master. The latter has also marked him to become a great lover of barbecue.

Chef Dejan Mastnak places great emphasis on bringing together the region’s top local suppliers. He focuses on simple and natural flavours, which he transforms into excellent catering. He pays special attention to grilling, saying that the Weber Academy is a big part of his life, where he can pass on his knowledge and culture of grilling while preparing a wide variety of grilled food.

In his quest to be a top host, he is discovering the balance between the elegance of preparation and the rustic heartiness of the food. He combines his experience and knowledge with just the right amount of youthful openness to new creative approaches.
