Family experience with generational twists
A restaurant with a hundred years of tradition and new inspirations from exciting culinary trends.
The Jež Restaurant in Radeče has been running for more than 120 years. Decades ago, this family establishment on the upper end of Posavje, a culinary destination of increasing importance, was frequented mostly by lovers of traditional Sunday lunches. Today, most guests drive from far and wide to this restaurant, which at first glance seems all too ordinary, for its excellent tasting menus created by the fourth generation of this family of restaurateurs.
With each generation, the Jež Restaurant takes a new leap forward and will continue to do so. In addition to his wife, who is responsible for the overall management, and his mother, who is the strictest taster of his culinary innovations, owner Rok Martinčič has already been joined by his daughter and son, who are following in the family’s footsteps. The guests, who know that a reservation is a must at Jež, appreciate the restaurant’s hospitality, always accompanied by a personal welcome from the smiling chef. With its timeless decor of wood and the crackling of firewood in wintertime, the restaurant captivates with its original culinary creations that are never just fashionable or creative for creativity’s sake.
The main dishes are still deeply grounded in familiar ingredients and traditions, which here take on new dimensions. The selection of cold starters intended to be shared by the whole table amazes with its bold originality. The triple dessert is a play on nostalgic inspiration that reminds many a guest of the sweets they used to enjoy in kindergarten or school. An original introduction, a gastronomically excellent middle, and an unusual sweet finish are Jež’s recipe for a successful fusion of haute cuisine and the best traditions of Slovenian taverns.

The famous amuse bouches
Creations of the future generation
Rok Martinčič recently started experimenting with easy-to-deliver dishes. The result was a selection of pâtés made of carefully selected top ingredients. Jež’s famous delicacy is still a common amuse-bouche and a source of instant excitement for guests.
Who knows: maybe one day Rok’s pâtés will become part of a tradition as represented by the Flavours of Posavje. The Jež Restaurant is already a respected gastronomic destination under this project and a good reason to visit the banks of the Sava River.

Rok Martinčič
Boldness and originality should be paired with listening to others.
He knows how it is to grow up in a country tavern. When your parents are in the restaurant business, you pick up all sorts of things in your youth, but you don’t think of becoming a proper chef!
